The two firms have worked closely on numerous projects in recent years, many involving the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences campus, Rowland said, and the merger is simply a natural progression of that work. "It's not about being bigger, but being better," he said.
"It's a merger of two equal firms," Rowland said. Wilcox had strengths in health care and Polk Stanley had strengths in the corporate, nonprofit and education fields. "It's a bold move that we've been planning for a long time."
Polk Stanley, founded in 1977, and Wilcox, founded in 1989, have created some of the state's most distinguished landmarks and have won numerous awards, the most recent of which was the American Institute of Architects National Institute Honor Award for the Heifer International headquarters building in Little Rock. Both also have been in the forefront of the green movement in architecture.
