SUIT DROPPED: The Federal Maritime Commission filed a motion with a Washington, D.C., administrative law judge stating that it planned to drop all opposition to the Clean Truck Program at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The motion followed a June decision by the commission to seek dismissal of a federal lawsuit against what it said were anti-competitive elements of the program that would have raised shipping costs. The commission's decision was based on changes to the program and the decrease in shipping activity. The program bans polluting older trucks from both ports, with the L.A. port more tightly restricting which truckers can do business there.
