Nigeria - Bello A. Suleiman.

The CEO of Power Holding Co. of Nigeria (PHCN), Suleiman in early 2009 said a drop in power generation in the country from over 3,200 MW to less than 2,819 MW was due to inadequate gas supply. He added: "Nigeria is said to be a gas producing country but the situation on the ground is that the gas infrastructure is very weak and cannot provide the gasneeded for power generation".

Suleiman said a recurring gas supply problem had been dragging down the company's power generating capacity. He stressed that, although PHCN's power plants required 1,617 MCF/day, they were then getting 490 MCF/day from NGC. He said PHCN needed at least 800 MCF/day of additional supply to be able to deliver a 4,915 MW target by December 2009.
