First quality to add diaper plant.(Top of the News)(Brief article)

According to a report on the Pennsylvania governor's website, First Quality Baby Diapers has been approved to construct a new one million-square-foot facility in Granville, PA. The manufacturer of private label disposable baby diapers will receive a $2.3 million loan to build the facility, a move expected to create 500 jobs within the next five years in the area.

The loan was a component of a $9.7 million Governor's Action Team funding package and the project was sponsored by the Mifflin County Industrial Development Corp.

First Quality Baby Diapers was formed in 2007 when parent company First Quality Enterprises, a maker of spunbonded nonwovens as well as a number of private label disposable goods, announced its intent to play in the disposable diaper arena. Later that year, the company purchased the retail business of Covidien, based in King of Prussia, PA, including a sizable private label baby diaper business, for about $335 million.
