DuPont has merged three of its business units--DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems, Nonwovens and DuPont Personal Production--under a new name, DuPont Protection Technologies. The new organization groups together technologies and products that protect lives, the environment and critical processes worldwide. Among the most well known offerings are DuPont Tyvek and Sontara nonwovens, Nomex and Kevlar advanced fibers, and Tychem protective apparel.
Thomas Powell, who has been serving as vice president and general manager of DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems, will lead the organization as vice president and general manager. "We are tremendously excited about the opportunities created for our people and our customers by combining these businesses," said Mr. Powell. "We believe we will be able to quickly simplify internal processes, increase the speed of decision-making and more fully leverage our large investments in research and developmerit across market segments. These changes will lead to more rapid innovation and improve our responsiveneSs to customers.I'
Mr. Powell emphasized that DuPont Protection Technologies will continue to operate its existing manufacturing and research facilities around the world and there are no plans to close or combine any sites as a result of the restructuring. He also stressed that the: business remains committed to the current business strategies and market segments.
"These businesses are responsible for high-performance products and technologies that are known and respected worldwide," he said. "They have long-standing leadership positions and represent applications and technologies that DuPont is counting on for future growth. We are committed to continuing to invest in capacity and innovation to meet the current and future needs of our customers."
