PET WATCH.

Byline: Genna Reece

FANTASTIC news, after the success of our Fun Day in April, plans are now in motion to hold another on the last Saturday of September, the 26th. We are hoping the rain will give us a rest for the day. We are this week appealing for bedding and tinned dog food. All donations are gratefully received, so please empty out those cupboards. So far in August the amount of cats at our Benton Shelter is still rising and rehoming has slowed right down. Cats make fantastic pets and there are many benefits to adopting an older cat, rather then a kitten. When rehoming a cat please remember they can live up to 20 years, so even an older cat will have many years ahead to spend with you. An older cat will also adapt to their new home more comfortably than a kitten and needs much less supervision. For more information contact our Benton Shelter on (0191) 215 0435.

Our Benton Shelter is still looking for homes for our young Netherland dwarf rabbits. They are all friendly and enjoy a nice cuddle.

The two small puppies found on Cambois beach a few weeks ago are getting on brilliantly. They are now approximately five weeks old and next month will be looking to start a new life in new homes. Last weekend, our volunteers were working hard raising money for us and we would like to give them and all our supporters a huge thank you for all their help. If you are interested in volunteering at the shelter as a fundraiser, dog walker or cat cuddler please apply in writing to Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter, Benton North Farm, Benton Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8EH. Another big thank you to everyone running the Great North Run to raise money for us this year, if you or anyone you know has not yet chosen a charity to run for we would love to hear from you. Please contact us on (0191) 215 0435 or genna@dogandcatshelter.com. ANIMALS FOR HOMES: Rio (207) Rio is a black and white greyhound approximately three years old. He is young, playful and gets on well with other dogs. Rio is at our Claremont Road Shelter. Ottis (415) Ottis is a white and black neutered tom cat. He arrived at our Benton Shelter in January. Ottis can be quite shy at first, but once he knows you, enjoys lots of attention.

If you are interested in any of these animals, please call our Benton North Farm Shelter on (0191) 215 0435 or Claremont Road Shelter on (0191) 232 2878. To view more of our cats and dogs needing homes please visit www.dogandcatshelter.com
