People power.

A NORTH East MP has backed a bid to get more people involved in politics.

Blyth Valley MP Ronnie Campbell signed an Early Day Motion in the hope of getting people to take part in their local communities.

It is hoped the bill will make it easier for local people to put demands to government give them the power to petition their councils to act more on their behalf.

Mr Campbell, said: "It has never been more important to involve people in decision making. The Sustainable Communities Act does just that, by putting local people - not Whitehall officials - in the driving seat on the action government takes to improve their communities, because local people are the experts on their own problems and the solutions."
