May 19, 2008: Shortly after 11pm, Hayley Adamson is struck by a patrol car, on Denton Road, in Newcastle's West End as she crossed a road with a group of friends. She died at the scene.
May 20, 2008: Independent Police Complaints Commission launches investigation. Officer involved is suspended from duties.
May 21, 2008: Northumbria Police move to defuse tension in the area. Officers liaise with neighbours in Scotswood.
May 24, 2008: The teenager's relatives appeal for an end to rumours about her death in a statement issued by the IPCC on their behalf.
June 6, 2008: Hundreds of friends and family say goodbye to Hayley. Flowers deck out the 16-year-old's coffin from her home in Cedar Road, Fenham.
July 5, 2008: Hayley's sister and mother start campaign to build a play centre in her memory. July 21, 2008: Her sister Sarah launches a campaign for police cars to activate sirens and blue lights if they are breaking the speed limit.
April 9, 2008: Shamed police officer John Dougal is told he faces years in jail after being convicted of causing the teenager's death by dangerous driving.
May 1, 2008: Dougal jailed for three years.
