FREE blood pressure check are on offer across Gateshead.
Health trainers are hoping to boost a national campaign aimed at alerting people to the dangers of high blood pressure.
And now they are offering the check-ups between September 7 and 13, starting at Saltwell Towers in Saltwell Park on Monday September 7. Each day throughout the week a different Gateshead venue will play host to a 'Pressure Station'.
Untreated high blood pressure can cause stroke, heart attack and heart failure.
But once it's diagnosed high blood pressure can be successfully managed.
Gateshead Council cabinet member for health, Coun Mary Foy, said: "As a council were committed to helping our residents improve their health in a whole manor of ways from providing first class sporting opportunities to encouraging healthy eating in our schools.
"Helping local people to keep tabs on their blood pressure is a big part of that and we're giving our full support to the Blood Pressure Association for Know Your Numbers! Week." More information on where Gateshead's 'Pressure Stations' will be situated is available on (0191) 433 5793 or at www.gateshead.gov.uk
