PARENTING charity NCT has celebrated reaching its 100,000-member milestone. Founded in 1956 NCT - or the National Childbirth Trust - has been supporting parents through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood for more than 50 years. Membership has grown steadily through the years to several thousand in the 70s and 80s.
NCT's 100,000th member is first time mum-to-be Helen Warner, 34, an exercise teacher from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire. She said: "I joined NCT as my husband and I are planning on attending an antenatal course later in the year and I would like to get to know other parents-to-be in our area through the local NCT activities. "It's great that NCT is able to provide so much information to help parents during their pregnancy and with their new babies. One of the things I really like about being a member is knowing that my membership fee will go towards subsidising NCT classes for those who cannot afford to pay for them."
Mark Atkinson, NCT fundraising and supporter relations director, said: "We are thrilled to have reached the 100,000 member milestone. NCT members have supported our work for over 50 years helping parents to be the best parent they can be."
