Join in beach clean.

A NORTH East beach is set for a major clean-up.

Volunteers will be descending on Hendon Beach, Sunderland, on September 20 as part of the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) annual Beachwatch litter survey and clean-up.

Sunderland City Council is working in partnership with MCS and wants to make it the most successful beach clean yet. Coun James Blackburn, portfolio holder for attractive and inclusive city, said: "This particular event will help to safeguard the natural qualities of our coastline including Hendon Beach, against the effects of litter and to protect our local marine and coastal wildlife."

Volunteers should meet at the Hendon Beach Car park at 10.30am and should take refreshments.

Anyone under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
