BUS STATION REVAMP WALLSEND bus station is to get a pounds 130,000 facelift. Nexus is spending the cash on new shelters, improved lighting, extra CCTV and changes to the road layout. Work has already begun on the project, which will be completed over the next two months.
NIGHT OUT FOR pounds 3 BUS users in the Tyne Valley are being encouraged to leave the car at home this summer with an evening out by bus for only pounds 3. The return fare is valid on the 602 and 604 services between Newcastle, Prudhoe and Hexham after 6pm.
Arriva's area manager for Tyne Valley, Tony Hart, said: "Routes 602 and 604 provide frequent links to some great places - restaurants in Corbridge or Hexham, the cinema and shops at the MetroCentre and, for football fans, St James's Park."
GRANT FOR CANOES A GATESHEAD project is celebrating a grant of almost pounds 5,000 towards supporting disadvantaged young people.
The grant from the Gateshead Housing Company's award-winning Community Fund will allow Wayout in Gateshead (WinG) to continue to run its Paddle Your Own Canoe project. The project allows groups of young people to build and roadtest their own Native American-style open canoe.

GREEN-FINGERED growers at Denton Bank Allotment Association are holding their annual show on Sunday. The show, featuring the cream of this years' home produce crop, will be held in the Scout hut, Silver Lonnen, Fenham, from 10am to 4pm.
Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
HAVE SAY IN ELECTION RESIDENTS across County Durham have been sent electoral registration forms in the council's drive to prepare for the impending parliamentary election, which will take place before June next year.
If there are no changes to a voter's details, they can reregister through a variety of channels, such as freephone, text messaging, by post, or via the internet. If a voter's name is not on the Electoral Register, they cannot vote at any election.
FUN AT HOME'S FAIR A FAIR will be held at Shafto Court on Saturday.
Kicking off at 2pm, the fair includes a Scottish Pipe Band who will open the fun at the nursing home, on Ferguson Lane, Benwell.
Moneys raised will go towards social activities for the retired tenants.
