A WOMAN was seriously injured yesterday when she fell from cliffs in South Shields.
The woman fell from cliffs at Trout Bay just after 1pm.
Coastguard, ambulance and a helicopter from RAF Boulmer were all involved in the rescue.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: "The cliffs are fairly nasty in the place she fell and it was awkward to get to her out. We had to stabilise her and then take her to hospital."
The victim was taken to Newcastle General Hospital suffering from head and neck injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.
