GEOFF ALLEN scored in the white shirt of England to secure them a treasured place in the World Youth Cup finals.

Sharing forward duties with the likes of Peter Osgood, Allen struck to defeat Italy in the semi-final before England succumbed 3-2 to East Germany in Essen.

"We were a good team and might easily have won the World Cup to go with my Fairs Cup success," maintained Geoff.

"That would have been something, wouldn't it? "I received an England cap and have it to this day which is nice.

"That and my European medal with United is not a bad return from such a short career.

"But, yes, I do think of what might have been."
