Our panel give their views on the win over Leicester City GRAHAM BREWIS AFTER a first half where we were pretty clueless in our organisation, the superb Guthrie goal led to an excellent team effort. We hassled and fought endlessly, so much so that Harper did not have to repeat his two quality first-half saves. In fact, he had so little to do he could have read the Chronicle and pondered the speculation as to who will be alongside him for the next game after today's auction.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Guthrie OMAR MIRZA AN unbeaten start and top of the league - it's been a good few years since we've been able to say that! It wasn't the best of games, and in all honesty Leicester probably deserved a point. However, that little bit of extra quality, this time from Guthrie, saw us home. Now it's all about getting in some fresh faces for the battles that lie ahead. Do the right thing for once, Ashley.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Nile Ranger LEN JONES AFTER a fairly frustrating first half, the second half was a different story. Jose Enrique and Danny Simpson were rocks at the back, Danny Guthrie and Alan Smith outstanding in midfield, and Nile Ranger performed out of his skin up front. As the game progressed the gulf in class shone, and Guthrie's piledriver was the least United deserved. Praise to Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood who have masterminded our solid start to the season.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Alan Smith IAIN KNOX IT WAS by no means pretty, but it's the three points that send us top that count. Poor passing, lack of ideas and flat feet made for a poor match, although the result did prove that raw determination can play a big part in grinding out points. Nolan playing in front of Ranger really did defy logic, however when this was changed Ranger improved and looked useful. We must see some last-minute signings to add depth and speed to the squad.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Enrique CHRIS DICKSON IT is getting repetitive saying that United are doing brilliantly given the off-thefield situation, but this was another solid performance. Newcastle were poor in the first half and Harper made a few excellent saves. The second half was better, but what was most impressive was the way United looked assured after taking the lead. I hope I am proved wrong, but this form is unsustainable given the lack of depth in the squad.
