Malaysian low-cost AirAsia is doubling its Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchirappalli service to twice-daily from once-daily from 1 September due to strong demand. The airline says that it will operate an Airbus A320 to Tiruchirappali, or Trichy, a city in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu that was AirAsia's first Indian destination. Jul 27, 2009

East Star Airlines
East Star Airlines asked CAAC for permission to resume operations despite a Wuhan court's rejection of takeover offers from China National Aviation Fuel Holding Co. and Shanghai YuField. East Star was forced to suspend operations and enter bankruptcy owing to its heavy debt burden and the March collapse of a share sale deal with Air China parent CNAC. Jul 22, 2009
Jetstar
Australia's Jetstar plans to double its Sydney-Darwin services by late October in response to strong demand. The airline, Qantas Airways' low-cost subsidiary, offers fiveweekly services on the route. This will increase to a daily service from 18 September and another three weekly flights will be added from late October, bringing it to a total of 10 weekly services, says the carrier. It will operate Airbus A320 aircraft on the route. Jetstar adds that the additional services will allow easier connections on its flights from Darwin to international destinations such as Singapore, Bali in Indonesia, and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Spring Airlines, Airbus
Privately run Chinese carrier Spring Airlines aims to boost its fleet of aircraft to 100 by 2015 from just 13 now, and is only looking at adding Airbus A320 planes, its chairman said Wednesday. Wang Zhenghua also told reporters on the sidelines of an event to celebrate the carrier's fourth anniversary that it planned to list its shares in Shanghai in the second half of next year. Wang added that of the 100 aircraft planned for the fleet, about 30 would be purchased outright. Jul 29, 2009

V Australia continues to shake up the market with the introduction of super cheap one-way tickets between Los Angeles - Sydney and Brisbane offering more flexibility for travelers, which are on sale now. While one-way fares are not new to the arena, V Australia is the first airline to offer one-way fares across ALL of its fare brackets, including its lowest lead-in fares, offering one-way tickets from just USD 359*, approximately 76 percent lower than the lowest one-way fare currently offered by competitor airlines^.
