Air China

Air China Limited announced that it is extending its toll-free telephone customer service throughout Canada from its North American regional headquarters in Los Angeles starting today. Services provided by the North American call center include booking, ticketing, frequent flyer program, flight status inquiries and customer relations. AirAsia

Malaysian budget airline AirAsia on Wednesday abolished administrative fees on all its flights in a move to reduce fares and bolster sales amid the global slowdown. AirAsia Chief Executive Tony Fernandes said scrapping the fee creates further savings for passengers as they will now pay only the fare and airport tax. AirAsia removed fuel surcharges in November last year. The fee ranged from 22.5 ringgit (USD 6.40) to a maximum of around 43 ringgit per ticket and removing it will cost the airline 400 million ringgit (USD 113 million) a year. Jun 25, 2009

Jetstar Airways

Jetstar, Australian carrier Qantas' low-cost subsidiary, has launched a Wellington-Christchurch service in New Zealand and introduced additional Auckland-Wellington and Auckland-Christchurch services in the country. Jun 24, 2009

Joy Air

Joy Air, the joint venture launched by AVIC and China Eastern Airlines in the spring of 2008, will begin operations next month following the arrival of two MA60s Sunday. The Xi'an-based carrier signed a contract for 13 MA60s at last November's Zhuhai Air Show and plans to acquire 50 of the type, plus 50 ARJ21s, within the next eight years. Jun 23, 2009

Kaohsiung Airport

Since the first millionth visitor arrival emerged on April 3 this year - a Malaysian woman named Yap Ah Mooi, the second millionth visitor has surfaced on June 20. Wong Chi Hoi (pronounced Huang Chi-kai in Mandarin) is a 23-year-old man from Hong Kong who arrived on China Airlines Flight CI-932 at Kaohsiung Airport. Jun 25, 2009

Malaysia Airlines, SriLankan Airlines

Malaysia Airlines and SriLankan Airlines signed an agreement to enhance their longstanding codeshare partnership, signifying a strengthening of the close cooperation between the two Asian carriers. The agreement enables Malaysia Airlines to codeshare on SriLankanOs flights to Male in the Maldives while SriLankan Airlines will access Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne, Jakarta, and Seoul through Malaysia Airlines.
