AIRES, Boeing

Colombia's Aires aims to launch services to the US in the fourth quarter of this year with newly acquired Boeing 737-700s initially operating from Bogota to Fort Lauderdale and New York JFK. Jul 1, 2009

American Airlines

American has completed extensive renovations to its Admirals Club at Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) in Brazil. The lounge, located in Terminal 2, Wing D on the mezzanine level, now has 6,621 square feet, an expansion of more than 1,200 square feet, with seating for more than 220 visitors. The renovated space mixes luxury and convenience by offering an upgraded, multi-functional business center, flat-panel TVs, self-serve complimentary food and beverage selections, and a children's room. Boliviana de Aviacin

Boliviana de Aviacin started a new route to the department of Tarija, 860 Km to the South from La Paz. With this one, four destinations are attended by the company, also operating between the capital, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. Jul 1, 2009

British Airways

British Airways will launch twice-weekly service from London Gatwick to Montego Bay and Punta Cana in October. Jul 3, 2009

Gol Linhas Areas

Gol is studying the possibility of starting flights to the Caribbean and is therefore waiting for the respective authorizations to fly to Aruba and Dominican Republic, what represents an important change in their South America routes net. Recently, they suspended their flights between Santiago and Lima; in June flights between Sao Paulo and Bogot changed from daily and direct to four weekly frequencies with scale in Manaos. As to flights between Sao Paulo and Santiago, the airline reduced their seven weekly flights offer to two on Saturdays and Sundays, but keeping their daily frequencies with scale in Buenos Aires. LAN Peru

Since June 23, LAN Peru increased frequencies from Lima to Madrid to operate seven weekly flights. Furthermore, from the capital of Spain, connections with other European cities such as Paris, Rome and Frankfurt will be available with LAN Airlines Flights. Jul 1, 2009

Maya Island Air

Maya Island Air is introducing Maya Island Air Regional linking Belize, Cancun, Guatemala City and San Pedro Sula. Starting July 8, Maya Island Air Regional will offer daily roundtrip flights between BelizeOs Philip Goldson International Airport, San Pedro Sula, and Guatemala City and two daily return flights between BelizeOs Philip Goldson International Airport and Cancun, Mexico. Maya Island Air is a Belizean airline, which has been servicing 10 destinations in Belize for the past 49 years using a fleet of Norman Islanders, Cessna Caravans, 182s and Air Vans. The fleet has now been expanded to include three ATR 72s. The ATR 72s have been configured for comfort with 68 seats. SBA Airlines

For operative, commercial and technical type reasons, the first flight of SBA Airlines was postponed for August 1st. Due to the high demand of travelers to Panama and within a growth plan, the airline will open a route Panama-Caracas-Panama in a 757 Boeing with capacity for 178 passengers. There will be two daily frequencies, excepting on Saturdays with only one flight. Jul 1, 2009

Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines launched thrice-weekly Fort Lauderdale-Santiago, Dominican Republic, service and will increase it to daily on Sept. 1. Jul 3, 2009

Volaris Airlines

Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris plans to initially operate six flights on five transborder routes this year as it prepares to launch more US service and begin codesharing with Southwest Airlines next year. Volaris' first international flight will land in Los Angeles later today from the carrier's Toluca hub. Volaris COO Andres Fabre says the carrier will serve Los Angeles from Toluca once per day and will launch service to Los Angeles from Guadalajara 1 July with two daily frequencies, up from an initial plan of only one.
