UNESCO declared Ciudad Sagrada de Caral as a Human Cultural Heritage during meeting number 33 of the World Heritage Meeting made in Sevilla, Spain. Costa Rica
A recent study done by the British organization the New Economics Foundation named Costa Rica as the OHappiest Place on Earth,O citing its long life expectancy, life satisfaction of its people, its low environmental impact, strong networks of friends and family and a healthy balance between work and play. The report highlights the attitude of its people and their view of whatOs important in life. When Costa Rica made the decision to eliminate its army in 1948, it seemed like an unlikely and nave choice, at best. Then, in 1978, Costa Rica took it a step further and declared 25 percent of its territory as protected land in an effort to preserve the rich biodiversity that today has made the country one of the most sought after ecological destinations in the world. While these decisions were criticized in their time, Costa Rica today has come full circle and proven that a life focused on the well-being of the people and the planet is the best recipe to living a long and happy life. Ecoventura
Ecoventura, a small-ship operator in the Galapagos, tested a new concept in parent-teen travel. The company invited 10 teens and 10 parents to join a June graduation cruise aboard the Eric that departed Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on the Island of San Cristobal on June 7, returning to port eight days later. OI wanted to put together an epic trip for my 18-year-old graduate that she and I would cherish the rest of our lives,O said Mike Thomsen, a guest from Iowa. OThis trip more than fulfilled those dreams.O Over the week the yacht crossed the Equator four times, visiting the islands of Genovesa, Fernandina, Isabela, Santiago, Santa Cruz, Espanola and San Cristobal. Planned activities included snorkeling with penguins and sea lions, naturalist-guided wildlife hikes, nature photography, lava tube exploration, star gazing, and a night out on the town of Puerto Ayora, the largest settlement in Galapagos. Unplanned events included moonlight card games, diving off the upper deck to storm a nearby ship at anchor, and a graduation party with dancing and live musical entertainment courtesy of the captain, crew and guides. The Gary Player Group is expanding its global brand with the announcement of a new real estate venture in concert with Harlequin Hotels & Resorts at The Marquis Estate on the northeast coast of St. Lucia. The five-star beach resort project was officially unveiled at a special launch event hosted by Harlequin Hotels & Resorts at The Grove, a country estate retreat near London. Plans include the first boutique Gary Player Golf Hotel and 20 Gary Player branded luxurious, secluded residential villas that will be interspersed on hillsides throughout the golf course. As part of the continuing Signature of Excellence enhancement program, Holland America Line will add 22 staterooms to Prinsendam in early 2010. The dry-dock will occur in Freeport, Bahamas, Jan. 4 to 13. OPrinsendam continues to be a ship with one of our most loyal followings,O said Richard D. Meadows, executive vice president-marketing, sales and guest programs. OThe new staterooms will mostly be verandah cabins. This will also allow us to create some other very special additions.O With the addition of staterooms aft, the pool deck will expand with more space and more deck chairs, and a new sea-view bar will be created. Sixteen of the new staterooms will be deluxe verandahs and two will be slightly smaller verandahs. Four will be standard inside staterooms. Appointments will feature elegant bathrooms and recently redesigned closet space.
