Air China
Air China may face tougher domestic competition after failing to win a partner in Shanghai, the countryOs commercial capital. China Eastern Airlines Corp. and Shanghai Airlines, the dominant carriers in the city, plan to combine, said Shanghai Air Vice President Feng Xin. Together, they will control about 50 percent of the flights in and out of the city compared with 11 percent for Beijing-based Air China, according to Ally Ma, an analyst at Citigroup Inc. Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand has announced will reduce its flights on the London-Hong Kong route from seven services a week to five. NZ38/39 flights scheduled to depart on Wednesdays will cease effective from 23 September and NZ38/39 flights on Mondays from 12 October. Services between Hong Kong and Auckland are unaffected. Scott Carr, ANZ's general manager, UK and Europe, said: "As everyone is well aware the airline industry is facing exceedingly tough times at the moment and regrettably, the Asia markets have been hit hardest. It is in this context that Air New Zealand has taken the decision to reduce flights on the London-Hong Kong route." All Nippon Airways
All Nippon Airways plans to launch passenger services from Tokyo Haneda airport to Europe and the USA. Haneda's fourth runway opens in October 2010 and ANA plans to launch long-haul international services from there once the new slots become available, the Star Alliance carrier's executive VP, Keisuke Okada, told ATI yesterday at the IATA AGM in Kuala Lumpur. China Southern Airlines, NCR Corporation
NCR Corporation announced China Southern Airlines has deployed 30 NCR TouchPort kiosks at the airlineOs big-city hubs of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changchun and Zhengzhou in China, offering the added flexibility and convenience of self-check-in to its passengers. NCR TouchPort kiosks utilize Common Use Self Service (CUSS) technology, which allows different airline applications to run concurrently on a single self-service device. These are the first CUSS-compliant kiosks deployed by China Southern. Jetstar Airways launched services in New Zealand, taking over parent Qantas's flights between Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown. The Qantas mainline, which operated a small fleet of 737-400s in New Zealand, will withdraw from domestic service there. Jun 11, 2009
