Making a splash.

YOUNGSTERS are being given the chance to improve their swimming skills.

Schoolchildren over five can take part in a series of Swimskools organised by South Tyneside Council.

Qualified instructors will hold the ten-week courses at either St Matthew's pool in Jarrow on Mondays and Wednesdays, or Stanhope School in South Shields on Wednesdays from September 21. Coun Tracey Dixon, lead member culture and wellbeing said: "We want to encourage more schoolchildren to learn to swim. Apart from it being a great life skill it is also an enjoyable way to keep fit."
