A MAN was found dead on his bed after taking a heroin substitute.
Kevin Ilderton, 41, moved into Byker Bridge House, Wilfred Street, Byker, Newcastle, just two days before he was found in his room.
Residents had been unable to get a response when they knocked on his door and alerted staff at the hostel.
An inquest at Newcastle Civic Centre heard the police and ambulance service were called at 10.15pm on January 17.
Two other residents were arrested on suspicion of supplying Mr Ilderton with the heroin substitute methadone.
A statement from DC Jason Hazel said: "Both the people suggested Kevin had been supplied with three capfuls, around 30ml the day before.
"His last movements were inside the hostel and he was drinking alcohol. Then he was in the company of two other residents, where he drank a quantity of methadone.
"Later on he was seen looking white and said he didn't feel well."
Deputy assistant coroner Karen Dilks recorded a verdict of misadventure.
