THERE'S WALLY! Children's book centre brings popular character to life with fun events.

Byline: NICOLA JUNCAR

YOUNGSTERS on Tyneside have been asking where's Wally? The popular children's picture books, where readers have to find Wally in a crowded setting, have been brought to life.

Seven Stories, the centre for children's books in Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, has been staging Where's Wally Week. The event, which runs until tomorrow, is one of several themed weeks to have been held at the venue across the summer holidays.

Visitors to the centre have been enjoying Where's Wally Tours with a resident Wally Watcher. Children and adults alike are also being invited to dress in red and white stripes, just like Wally, to add to the chaos.

Other activities include contributing to the Spot Your Wally wall by making your own character and adding it to a big book scene.

Children can also make their own Where's Wally character or a pair of Wally-style glasses to help them find him.

In addition, Seven Stories has on display two original pieces of artwork by Martin Handford from Where's Wally? The Incredible Paper Chase.

The artwork, entitled The Castle Siege and What a Dog Fight, have been loaned to Seven Stories via Walker Books. The artwork will be on display until Sunday.

No booking is required for the Where's Wally Tours, which are being held today and tomorrow at 11.30am and 2pm.
