A FED-UP landlord has banned customers from using mobile phones because they ruin the atmosphere of his pub.
Traditionalist Harry Walker has introduced a complete ban on the use of mobile phones in his city centre pub and he says customers fully support him.
In an age of 24-hour communication with calls, texts and instant messaging the Court Inn, in Durham, has taken a step back in time and become a mobile phone-free venue.
Harry has instituted the ban not because customers have requested it but because he is sick of people nattering on their phones rather than having a conversation with the people they are with.
He said: "It makes for a very anti-social atmosphere when people use their mobile phones. It's very one-sided having someone on the phone when you're eating.
"Now people can just enjoy their time together in the pub. We've found that people now choose not to use their phones."
The pub has printed up new menus which have an image of a mobile phone in a red circle with a cross through it. There are also signs warning non-diners against the use of mobile phones.
