SATURDAY'S Evening Chronicle included a story about the resurfacing of a road in Jesmond by the council.
Some resident had left their car in the street blocking the work from being finished.
The workmen did the best they could in the circumstances, but it is being portrayed as the council messing up. I am not sure why.
In my day, we just got on with it rather than this blame culture we have now. It is not the council's fault that one car was left on the street.
These things are scheduled well in advance, so they could not simply up sticks and go to another street because those residents will not have been expecting them.
I am sure the workmen still rightly expect to be paid, so I would rather they were paid to do as much as they can rather than to sit around for a week.
There might be a hundred reasons why the car was left there, illness, holidays or whatever.
If the council had postponed, then next time the same thing happened and had to postpone again, then again, I bet I know who would get the blame, the council!
Damned if they do and damned if they don't.
