IN A knee-jerk reaction to political pressure, Gordon Brown does a flying visit to Helmand Province and announces he will supply the soldiers with better equipment to make them safer from roadside bombs. This is from the man who for the past year has been at odds with the generals who demanded more helicopters, better protected vehicles and surveillance drones.
Gordon has insisted that the Army had everything they needed.
Gordon Brown and his incompetent Defence Secretary should talk to the families who have lost loved ones and explain to them why he has been in denial over better equipment which might have saved some of those lives.
The truth is that the Armed Forces have never been high in his priorities and when Chancellor of the Exchequer he continually blocked and cut their budget. A H DAVIES, North Shields
