VIDEOTELE.COM HELPS CLEC DELIVER 100 VIDEO CHANNELS OVER VDSL.(Product Information)

VideoTele.com, Inc.(VT.c), Beaverton, Ore., a Tektronix company (NYSE:TEK) and leading provider of digital encoding, demultiplexing and grooming solutions, has announced that Hutchinson Telecommunications Inc., a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in South Central Minnesota, has deployed VT.c's M2-Series video edge devices to deliver over 185 MPEG-2 digital video and music channels -- including premium, local and broadcast offerings.

Hutchinson is using VT.c's M2-T310 encoders and the M2-VMX and M2-AMX video and audio demultiplexers for transmission of entertainment content across copper-based, VDSL lines provisioned by strategic business partner Next Level Communications (Nasdaq:NXTV).

This news comes as telephone companies are seeking new ways to offer new high-growth, high-revenue services over existing infrastructures to a generally static user base. The approach enabled by VT.c's complete head-end solution suite offers LECs and CLECs the opportunity to combine superior digital video offerings with voice and data services at a cost less than that for the hybrid fiber-coax solutions typical of cable broadcasting.

"VT.c's quality technology has radically expanded the CLEC business model, providing the means for our success with video," said Walter S. Clay, chairman, president and CEO of Hutchinson Telecommunications, Inc. "Now we can offer our customers a full complement of affordable entertainment-to-home services while leveraging our basic infrastructure."

"Telecommunications convergence has come to the heartland," said Lee Rainey, vice president of marketing for VT.c. "The addition of digital entertainment services to voice and data offerings means greater revenue opportunities for telephone companies -- and more choices for their customers. VT.c is proud to be a premier producer of superior head-end technology that provides CLECs, IOCs and LECs with reliable and innovative home entertainment services."
