ArvinMeritor To Move Aftermarket Operations From Tenn.(Brief Article)

ArvinMeritor, Inc. said it will relocate its light vehicle aftermarket operations from Pulaski, Tenn. The company cited weakened conditions in the light vehicle aftermarket segment and a necessity to maximize cost synergies as the reason for the moving.

The light vehicle systems operation, adjacent to the aftermarket facility, will remain at the current location in Pulaski. The light vehicle aftermarket facility manufactures ride control products and employs approximately 230 people, the company said.

ArvinMeritor said the Pulaski light vehicle aftermarket facility is scheduled to close by the end of the year when the transition of the current business is made to the existing ArvinMeritor locations. The company said its aftermarket customers will continue to be serviced through a realignment of capacity at existing facilities in Canada, Oklahoma, Venezuela and Mexico, where a Light vehicle systems facility already exists.

"While this decision is very difficult, the downturn in the aftermarket industry and the declining demand for ride control products in the U.S. market is forcing us to find new ways to be cost-effective and efficient," Dan Daniel, president, light vehicle aftermarket division, ArvinMeritor, said. "This action will help us to remain competitive in the long term in a highly cyclical industry."
