Nissan Motor Co. said it will build a new production plant in Canton, Miss., which will employ 4,000 workers and produce 250,000 vehicles annually. It said it will produce two new Nissan models - a pick-up and a sports-utility vehicle - as well as a new generation of its minivans. The new plant will give Nissan North American capacity of more than one million vehicles per year since it also operates a plant in Tennessee and two in Mexico, in Cuernavaca and Aguascalientes.
Accumulated Mexican production up to December 2000 totaled more than three million for Nissan.
