The automaker, based in Fuchu, Hiroshima Prefecture in western Japan, is also poised to improve its sales network in China to market its passenger cars more aggressively, the report quoted company officials as saying.
The company will begin producing its multipurpose sport-utility vehicle Premacy in June via an automaker in Haikou, Hainan Province. The Japanese automaker intends to manufacture 3,000-4,000 units of the model this year, and gradually raise the number each year, with the goal of 20,000 units in 2004, the officials said.

Honda plans to boost output in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, of its passenger car model Accord to 50,000 units this year from 32,000 recorded last year, while Toyota plans to start production of small passenger cars in China in 2002, based on its Vitz model, industry sources said.
