Delco Remy International, Inc., said that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire the North American remanufacturing business of Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). The business, located in Jacksonville, Fla., is responsible for the remanufacturing of Mazda automatic transmissions, transaxles and rotary engines, for Mazda's service requirements in North America.
The Jacksonville facility employs approximately 70 people who are expected to be retained by Delco Remy once the sale is complete.
"From a business perspective, this transaction is the right thing for Mazda and for Delco Remy International, Inc.," said Robert Davis, Vice-President of product strategy and development for MNAO.
As part of the sale, Delco Remy will acquire all of the assets of the Jacksonville facility from MNAO and will continue to remanufacture automatic transmissions, transaxles and rotary engines, the company said.
Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States.
