Hayes Lemmerz International Inc. said it will close a plant in Petersburg, Michigan, by year-end as it consolidates production to save money. The plant, which employs about 150 people, makes polymer intake manifolds for use in domestically produced light vehicles.
"The decision to close the Petersburg facility was an extremely difficult one for us," said Chief Executive Ron Cucuz in a release. "It is never an easy decision, but the need to remain competitive in a very demanding and rapidly evolving industry requires us to take these measures."
He said the company, which has 14,000 employees worldwide, will help workers affected by the closing to find new jobs.
