French auto parts group Valeo plans to double sales to Japanese automakers to about $786 million in 2002 from about $393 million in 2000, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper said.
The French manufacturer will focus on automotive lamps and climate- control equipment, and aims to boost supplies of the products to Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co., the newspaper said, quoting Valeo chairman and CEO Thierry Morin.
In the area of automotive lamps, the company will cooperate with Ichikoh Industries Ltd., in which Valeo has an equity interest, Morin was quoted as saying.
In 2000, Valeo's sales to Japanese automobile manufacturers accounted for about six percent of its consolidated sales, the newspaper said.
