NUCENTRIX TO DEPLOY BROADBAND WIRELESS IN 57 MARKETS.(Company Business and Marketing)

Nucentrix Broadband Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: NCNX), Plano, Texas, a provider of fixed wireless broadband Internet services, has received licenses from the FCC to launch two-way high-speed Internet, data and voice services in 57 of its markets across Texas, Oklahoma and the Midwest. The licenses granted by the FCC include Nucentrix's top 30 markets and top 10 market "clusters" in six states, and represent 90% of the applications filed by Nucentrix in the FCC's initial filing window in August 2000.

"With this action from the FCC, we now have regulatory approval to deploy competitive broadband services in a majority of our markets, many of which are not adequately served by broadband alternatives," said Carroll D. McHenry, chairman and CEO of Nucentrix. "We already provide high-speed wireless Internet service to approximately 550 accounts in Amarillo, Austin and Sherman-Denison, Texas, serving an estimated 4,200 end users."

"The next significant goal for us is to finalize the selection of a long-term technology platform and secure financing for network deployment, both of which we intend to complete in the second half of this year," said Mr. McHenry. "We believe the vendor and carrier communities have learned much in the past year about how best to match technology with service providers' requirements and meet the demands of our business model. With our experience to date both in commercial and trial markets, we remain confident that MMDS and ITFS will be one of the few sustaining platforms for delivering broadband services to medium and small markets."

Nucentrix also noted that the FCC had extended the build-out deadline for most Basic Trading Areas, or "BTAs," from August 2001 to August 2003. "We agree with the FCC that, given the recent grant of two-way licenses, extending the BTA build-out requirement will best serve the public interest by allowing additional time for construction of advanced digital communications systems" said J. Curtis Henderson, sr. vice president and general counsel of Nucentrix.
