Mazda Motor Corp. , a unit of Ford Motor Co., is echoing prediction by other auto producers and analysts for a sharply lower demand in the U.S. for vehicles in 2002. The company said it expects U.S. industry-wide sales to total 15.2 million vehicles next year. Before the September 11 attacks, Mazda had been forecasting 15.9 million units, President Mark Fields said.
He added that he expected the first quarter of 2002 to show a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 14.0 million units.
