Strong Aftermarket Helps Offset OE Decline For Delco Remy In Third Quarter.(original equipment)(Brief Article)

Delco Remy Int'l, Inc., a manufacturer and remanufacturer of automotive electrical and drivetrain/powertrain products, said its third quarter net sales were $271.1 million, up $3.5 million, or 1.3 percent, from the same period in 2000, reflecting continued strong demand for electrical aftermarket, remanufactured automatic transmission and remanufactured diesel engine components.

The sales growth in these markets was offset by continued softness in the original equipment segment, particularly heavy-duty, the company said. Operating income for the third quarter was $20.8 million, down 10.5 percent from $23.3 million in 2000.
