Autoliv said it has begun construction of a new plant that will produce airbags and seatbelts for the Korean automotive manufacturers. The company said the $8.5 million investment will serve local demand as well as from new contracts for Autoliv Mando Corp.. The new site is located in Sanchuck Korea (60 km south of Seoul).
Autoliv Mando Corp. is currently supplying airbag modules to Hyundai Motors and Renault Samsung Motors, Autoliv said. With the new plant, Autoliv Mando Corp. said it plans to supply also Kia Motors, Ssangyong Motors, and GM/Daewoo Motors, and extend its product program to include also seat belts and electronic components.
Current sales for Autoliv-Mando is about $40 million and is expected to exceed $150 million within three years, the company said.
