eLEC Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:ELEC), New Rochelle, N.Y., has received approval to operate as a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in a total of forty-one states.
In addition, the company is preparing to begin selling local services in Georgia, Louisiana and California.
eLEC CEO Paul Riss stated, "We are very excited to be expanding our presence in the southeastern United States. In addition to the increased addressable market that Georgia and Louisiana bring, we need to be operating in these states as soon as possible to complete a customer base acquisition that we have begun negotiating. Both states provide us tremendous opportunity to grow and will help us attract more multi-state customers in the southeast."
"We have also been working for several weeks with the incumbent carrier in California, so that we will be able to provide services there early next year," continued Riss. "Our California tariff is approved, we are loading our money saving rates into our line-level billing system, and we are almost ready to test our first California customer. The size of the addressable market in California will be an enormous boost to our marketing program. Our competitive pricing and the ubiquitous reach of our local and long distance service offering throughout the entire state will allow us to offer California consumers the savings, quality and flexibility of eLEC's calling plan."
eLEC Communications has now received state authorizations to provide local phone services in 41 states and is selling services in 15 states. The addition of California, Georgia and Louisiana will bring to 18 the number of states in which eLEC is actively selling. eLEC currently offers its local telephone service in Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
