Exco Technologies Ltd.'s Exco Engineering division in
Newmarket, Ont. has received a contract from auto-maker DaimlerChrysler.
Exco said the initial contract involves the design, development and
manufacture of engine block tooling for delivery to Mercedes Benz in
Stuttgart, Germany.
This tooling will be used by Mercedes Benz to produce its
next-generation V6/V8 - M272/M273 engine blocks. Exco said it expects to
ship its first mold under this contract in the fourth quarter of 2003.
The initial release for this program is about C$8 million, it
noted. It said its division has formed a strategic alliance with an
unidentified German-based tooling company to jointly supply this program
over a 10-year period.
Exco also said it sees "further opportunities for European
business" as a result of this pact. Exco supplies technologies
servicing the die-cast, extrusion and automotive industries.
