O'Reilly Automotive, Inc. opened its 1,000th store in mid-January, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. O'Reilly has opened or acquired 868 stores since going public in April 1993. In 1998, O'Reilly acquired Hi/LO Automotive, Inc., which nearly doubled the size of the company, adding 188 stores. In 2001, O'Reilly acquired Mid-State Automotive Distributors, Inc., adding 82 stores and expanding its presence to 16 contiguous states.

In 2002, O'Reilly said they plan to reach $2 billion in sales within four years.

O'Reilly Automotive is one of the largest specialty retailers of automotive aftermarket parts, tools, supplies, equipment and accessories in the United States, serving both the do-it-yourself and professional installer markets.
