Somera Communications (Nasdaq:SMRA), Santa Barbara, Calif., a leading global provider of telecom equipment deployment services, has announced that the company has launched a program to provide turnkey wireless backhaul solutions to national wireless and Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC) communities. Somera has already secured contracts with operators to support this deployment strategy.
The "Turnkey Telco Initiative" was developed in response to market demand for wireless backhaul solutions that reduce operating expenses, stretch capital budgets, and accelerate return on investment. Somera has designed a single source program that combines both equipment and deployment services to address the unique requirements of wireless and wireline operators, whether that be lower cost methods to expensive T1 leased lines and licensed microwave solutions or alternatives to incremental copper and fiber build-outs. When deployed, operators will be able to reduce time-to-market, achieve economical high-speed network interconnectivity, and accelerate revenue from new voice and data services at a faster rate of return.
"The Turnkey Telco Initiative is exactly what the telecom industry is looking for today, as evidenced by the contracts we've already signed with many operators," said Rick Darnaby, CEO of Somera Communications. "Customers are telling us that they need turnkey solutions that combine the value of services and equipment to support their deployment strategies. Our goal is to provide a more efficient alternative to optimizing today's networks that addresses the operating and capital constraints faced by most operators today. This initiative further addresses our customers' need for accelerated ROI from the capital investments that they are making."
Through this initiative, Somera will provide operators with path calculation and ROI modeling to assess whether the investment in wireless backhaul solutions meets return parameters. Somera will then develop and execute a turnkey deployment strategy that includes new and redeployed equipment and services for site acquisition, multi-vendor integration, and installation.
Continued Darnaby, "What enables Somera to deliver this kind of equipment and services solution is our diverse strategic relationships with our key partners. Because no two networks are alike, we can tap the appropriate partner solution to meet the specific network requirement. We are confident that the launch of this program will enable Somera to continue to grow market share and generate revenue by providing a more efficient and cost-effective alternative to our customers. In this instance, rapidly deployable wireless backhaul solutions."
Somera is currently performing equipment deployment services for more than 1100 operators throughout North America and outside the United States. Somera's new and redeployed equipment supply can support core and ancillary requirements for switching, transmission, wireless, and data networking applications. Somera deployment services support operators' need for redeployment planning & execution, equipment quality enhancements, multi-vendor integration, materials management, and installation/de-installation.
