New hope for Winn-Dixie.
by Doyle, Mona
We were excited to hear that the venerable Winn Dixie has a new CEO
and wish him luck in bringing back the pride and product quality the
once-great company had stood for. The following input from one of our
very reliable shoppers says something about the magnitude of the
problem: "Our local Winn-Dixie grocery store lost its power one
Sunday morning this past July; repairmen were called and the parts had
to come from Miami - and, being Sunday, wouldn't be available until
Monday. The refrigerator cases and freezers were fast defrosting (middle
of summer); I overheard a customer ask the manager if he was going to
put on an emergency sale to get rid of the frozen foods before they
became totally defrosted and unfit for sale. The manager's answer?
'Nah - the stuff won't thaw all the way. It will refreeze just
fine and no-one will know the difference.' At that point I left the
store and since then, have shopped at Publix grocery stores."
