The FDA has approved this year's seasonal influenza vaccines.
The approved formulation for the U.S. vaccine is identical to that
recommended by the World Health Organization, and includes one strain
that was used in last year's vaccine and two new strains. The
manufacturers approved to market their vaccines in the United States are
Chiron Vaccines, Ltd. (Emeryville, CA); GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals
(Research Triangle Park, NC); Med-Immune Vaccines, Inc. (Gaithersburg,
MD); and Sanofi Pasteur, Inc. (Swiftwater, PA). Approximately 100
million doses of vaccine will be produced by the manufacturers.
