A federal court has ruled to temporarily delay the effective date
of the Department of Homeland Security's Social Security No Match
rule. Several labor organizations filed a lawsuit with the federal
district court in San Francisco challenging the rule and requesting that
the court prevent it from taking effect on September 14, 2007. In
response, the court decided in favor of a temporary delay of the
effective date, and scheduled a hearing for October 1, 2007 to review
the lawsuit.
Employers are urged to remember that this delay is only temporary.
They should continue to familiarize themselves with the rule, and be
prepared to be in immediate compliance whenever it should take effect.
