Third edition of the Financial Audit Manual released.

The Government Accountability Office's third volume of the Financial Audit Manual (FAM) includes changes that have occurred in auditing financial statements in the U.S. government since the last major revisions to the FAM were issued in July 2004.

The revisions to the manual are primarily due to changes in:

* Professional auditing and attestation standards of the AICPA's Auditing Standards Board;

* GAO's Government Auditing Standards;

* Office of Management and Budget audit and reporting guidance; and
