The Fresh Sourdough Express Bakery and Cafe of Homer marks its 25th anniversary this year. Owned by Donna and Kevin Maltz, the business hit the milestone on Aug. 31. The bakery and cafe employees have prepared many organic foods since 1982, even grinding their own organic grains to make their famous sourdough breads. The business owners are seeking to obtain status as the first Certified Green Restaurant in Alaska, a designation recognizing environmentally friendly practices.
