MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MIPS), Mountain View, Calif., a
leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores
for digital consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications
and business applications, today announced that Entropic Communications
has now shipped more than five million MIPS-Based(TM) c.LINK(TM)
chipsets for digital networking applications based on MoCA (Multimedia
over Coax Alliance) specifications.
Powered by the MIPS32(R) 4KEc(R) and 4KEm(TM) processor cores, the
c.LINK coax network chip technology allows consumers to easily share
high-definition content such as video, music, games and images
throughout the digital home. Employing their existing coax cable
infrastructure, consumers can seamlessly connect their HDTVs, digital
video recorders (DVRs), set-top boxes and media center PCs.
"This is a significant milestone for our company," said
John Graham, vice president, marketing at Entropic. "Our ability to
leverage the performance, cost savings and power efficiency of the
MIPS(R) architecture has contributed greatly to the rapid market
acceptance of c.LINK as an industry standard in the delivery of
multimedia content to the connected home."
"We're excited that Entropic and their MIPS-Based c.LINK
solution have gained such significant traction worldwide, and we wish
them continued success," said Brad Holtzinger, vice president of
worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. "We look forward to working
with Entropic on new and innovative products and extending our
considerable presence in broadband, networking and home
entertainment."
According to iSuppli, the home networking market is forecasted to
grow to 500 million nodes shipped per year of both wireless and wired
technologies by 2010. Home networking nodes running over existing coax
cabling in the home is expected to account for 75 million of these
nodes.
"Five million units is without question validation that the
connected home market is here and provides compelling value to operators
and consumers alike," said Steve Rago, principal analyst, iSuppli.
