Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), San Rafael, Calif., has presented
Aedas, an international design firm based in Hong Kong, with a Revit BIM
Experience Award for their use of Revit Architecture software to create
remarkable buildings around the world, including a new 83-story
high-rise residential tower in Dubai that incorporates more than 10,000
frames of glass on the modularized twisting facade. With Revit
Architecture the multi-national team was able to quickly visualize and
verify the overall constructability and economic feasibility of the
complex curved curtain wall structure. The Revit BIM Experience Award
honors commercial firms, educational institutions or individuals for the
use of the Revit platform to create complex designs, collaborate across
multiple disciplines and drive increased productivity and sustainability
in the building design process. "Aedas strives to provide the best
possible designs to our customers," said David Fung, Senior
Associate and Head of BIM. "With Revit Architecture, we are able to
create comprehensive designs that allow for tight integration and
communication with our clients and other industry counterparts."
Design Challenges
When designing the Ocean Heights residential tower in Dubai, Aedas
designed the building to maximize views toward the ocean with a
deliberate twist on three of its faces. Because of the twisting nature
of the 83 story building, the parametric modeling tools in Revit
Architecture played a crucial role in facilitating the precise
positioning of each curved curtain wall panel. Revit enabled Aedas to
identify the coordinates of every piece of the over 10,000 frames of
glass on the modularized facade, verifying that each piece was flat.
This ensured the design's constructability and the project's
economic feasibility.
Working closely with other building disciplines on the recent
Community College City University Building (CCCUB) project in Hong Kong,
Aedas was able to streamline design processes and easily identify and
address interferences before construction using BIM. The design, as
communicated in drawings and other project documentation, was subject to
intense scrutiny and handling by government agencies, school officials,
contractors and consultants. Building information modeling using Revit
Architecture software ensured that the information and documentation
being shared was perfectly coordinated throughout the design, and all
statutory submissions required by Hong Kong regulations were
automatically calculated and created directly from the Revit model.
"Aedas' use of Revit Architecture offers a stellar
example of how firms adopting a BIM process can more cost effectively
manage complex designs, successfully manage international teams and
coordinate efficiently with other design disciplines to provide a client
with fully integrated and accessible design," said Jay Bhatt,
senior vice president Autodesk AEC Solutions. "Autodesk is wholly
committed to supporting integration and close communication throughout
the building industry, and we are pleased to honor Aedas for their role
in furthering the adoption of BIM across the world."
About the Revit BIM Experience Award
The Revit BIM Experience Award celebrates building industry
professionals and educators around the world who are helping to drive
transformation of the building industry through building information
modeling. Autodesk honors firm with this award for innovation and
excellence in implementing the Autodesk Revit platform for building
information modeling including Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and
Revit MEP on one or more projects.
