Sinden Committee requests candidates to apply.

The Dr. James W. Sinden Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the availability of its scholarship award. The Committee awards one or more scholarships to a graduate student(s) conducting dissertation research involving edible mushrooms and/or other edible fungi at an accredited college or university within the United States.

The fund has been established in the name of Dr. James Sinden in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the science and industry related to commercial mushroom growing. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and not on financial need or regional considerations.

Applications will be accepted until June 1, 2008. The applicant will need to supply the following:

* Undergraduate and graduate transcripts

* Four letters of recommendation--two of which should be from persons familiar with the applicant's academic record

* Results of the Aptitude Section (quantitative and verbal) of the Graduate Record Examination, including dates taken

* One page statement of the thesis research project and career plans

* List of current scholarships or grants, if any, to support research activities

* Applicant must adhere to financial policies relative to the grant as stated by the Sinden Committee.
