WB supports call centres in Kenya.

CALL CENTRES IN Kenya are to benefit from government financial aid as part of a Ksh78mn project supported by the World Bank. The cash released under the Transparency Communication and Infrastructure Programme will also support e-government projects aimed at taking public services to the grassroots through IT.

With this support, operators of call centre will pay US$500 per megabit per month leaving the government to pay US$1200 to broadband bandwidth service providers. Immediate beneficiaries are call centres that have been operating for at least three months.

Satellite links have been prohibitively expensive as call centres have to pay up to US$1700 monthly per bandwidth unit compared to US$250 per unit in India.
